IrelandGuide

We just  installed  Georgina Campbell’s Ireland Guide iPhone app. The guide promises that you can “quickly and easily find all the very best places to eat, drink & stay across the island of Ireland”.  We love the idea behind this application, as a tourist this could be a little gem to have in your pocket.

From Restaurants & Cafés to Pubs & Wine Bars to Hotels, Country Houses, Castles and B&Bs – all recommended establishments have been visited anonymously by experienced assessors who pay their bills like anyone else, it is a merit based guide with only the best getting recommended ensuring that we save you the time and hassle of extensive research. We do not charge for a listing thereby ensuring that we have all of the very best establishments.

The iPhone app describes itself, not as not a directory but rather a selective , critical  guide. While the app has many features, we found the UI could use a little work, the graphics on our iPhone 4 were not retina display enabled (although this is not a must). We also found the navigation to be a little confusing, streamlining the app to a more iPhone interface experience would perfect this app and increase it’s popularity in our opinion.

Despite this element, we found the app to have great potential, so if you are a tourist visiting Ireland this application might be worth having. There are many articles on this app a tourist would find valuable. Georgina Campbell’s Ireland Guide app for the iPhone also has the ability to find nearby things to do including places to eat, drink and stay, using the iPhone GPS. It’s great to see this in iPhone apps, as it shows a lot of work went into development.

It is worth noting this application has a yearly subscription for premium content, but the good news is the cost is only 2.39, and there is a free trial!

Version 2 has a number of new areas:

  • Golf Courses
  • Gardens
  • Festivals/Events
  • Special Offers
  • Articles
  • Area Guide
  • G Club
  • Improved mapping & route finding functionality
  • Images of establishments
  • Everything is interlinked – so find local golf courses, events, special offers etc wherever you are.

Version 2.0 is of the very highest quality with fantastic features and is
very user friendly, but we never stand still and are already planning the
third build which will incorporate a new Tourist Attractions sections,
Augmented Reality section, a new “Search by Map” area with colour coded pins
and any requests for feature amendments, new features, bug fixes etc that we
receive.

The Ireland Guide is available now in the iPhone app store [Free to download, free trial for premium content]
