Meteor Mobile 3G has a long way to go – when it comes to proving its worth. Vodafone was the first to offer 3G services, now including mobile television, but are consumers convinced? Well apparently not, but maybe in time they will be… Finally it looks like Irelands last 3G licence has been sold to Eircom, whom we are told will use it for its Meteor mobile network. Irish Daily Mail reports today:

EIRCOM announced yesterday that it would finally take the plunge into the world of 3G.It has decided to buy the country’s last 3G mobile licence for its fast growing Meteor unit.

The licence comes with a price tag of EUR114m and had initially been offered to troubled Smart Telecom.

3G, the third generation of wireless technology, has enhanced video and voice capabilities and led to better roaming, among other innovations.
