Apple have issued invitations to the media for an iPhone themed event – called “Let’s talk iPhone“. As reported by Jim Dalrymple of the Loop who snapped up a fancy invite. Although not specifically mentioning the iPhone 5/4s, it’s a widely expected Apple will announce it.  The event, as noted here previously, will be held on October 4th at the company’s Town Hall auditorium  in Cupertino, California.

Apple on Tuesday officially announced its iPhone 5 launch event. According to the invitation received by The Loop, the event will be held on October 4 at Apple’s Cupertino, Calif. campus. The event will begin at 10:00 am PT.

What will Apple call the iPhone, what to expect in terms of hardware? We have to wait for the event! But we can exect additional information and possible launch dates for iCloud and iOS 5. Additionally reports suggest Apple may also announce some changes to its iPod line and a Facebook iPad app. We can finally put the endless rumours to bed for a few months before iPhone 6 talks begin!

A voice interface that works; on the way with iPhone 5?

Say a command
Say a command

According to a report on the internet today, this year Apple will change the way we talk (or don’t talk – I mean who uses  Voice Control? – very few) to our iPhone.

This new voice control feature of iOS will be called Assistant, and unlike most voice control devices today – it may actually be usable to the point of being able to instruct your iPhone to text a contact and allowing you to dictate the content of the text!

According to the report, Apple will be using a software company they snapped up last year to ensure the iPhone 5 will understand your commands, and also be able to double-check its accuracy before carrying out said command!  You do not have to speak slowly or in a robotic voice for the iPhone 5 to be able to understand you! Sadly, you will need an iPhone 5 to use the feature due to the processor requirements.

One of the more interesting components of this report from 9to5Mac, discuss how the iPhone 5, utilizing a new A5 chip with 1GB of ram, will be able to carry out conversation style commands with its owner. For example you can ask the iPhone to schedule an appointment, and in an additional command within the same thread, continue the request to invite the person, and state the location!

Included also is the ability to ask your iPhone where your friends are! I would assume this would require them to also have iPhone 5 devices, and it will naturally open a new can of worms in terms of privacy.

Sadly however, 9to5Mac, have nothing to tell us with regard to the appearance of the iPhone 5. Apple, it seems to have wised up and are using the guts of the iPhone 5 in iPhone 4 shells. It seems – what we have seen online in terms of cases, are pretty indicative of what the device might look like in terms of shape.

I have a love hate relationship with these kind of rumors, this one is particularly interesting and is bound to grab your interest in what Apple have up their sleeves in October!

Hopefully though, the fruit in Cupertino have much more than this for us in October! I myself am hoping for a redesign of the iPhone. Let’s see what all the fuss is about? Have you say in what you would like in our poll!

I would love if the iPhone 5 could have Majel Barrett’s voice – but that’s just me!

Apple’s iPhone 5 Media Event Scheduled for October 4 (report)

While Apple could certainly change its plans anytime, sources said that the Oct. 4 date has been selected by the company to showcase the iPhone 5. Sources added that the plan is now to make the new device available for purchase within a few weeks after the announcement. Source AllThingsD

A report making its way around the internet is that Apple is holding a media event, which will focus on the iPhone 5, to be held on the 4th of October.  The event is said to prominently feature Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook, who faces the challenge of convincing people that Apple will be the same company without Steve Jobs at the helm. It would be nice to see Steve hand over to Tim, but maybe also – it would be better to leave the past the past and place all focus on the new CEO?
