If you get mobile Broadband what will you miss?
With the current structure of broadband in Ireland, you may well need to use mobile broadband. If you subscribe to the mobile service, be prepared to wait a few years for a reliable fast service.
The truth - at the end of the day is mobile broadband is currently actually the old dial up service cleverly disguised behind a fancy white dongle with failed promises of fast speeds.
By the way - you do remember the squawking SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh while connecting to the net, that sound that was (and is) dial up, you should remember it - its all Ireland had for an age (and still does have in the country)
Words like HSDPA and 3G are thrown around the place when you get this fancy mobile broadband but for most of the time and in a majority of cases, you will get very slow speeds, particularly at peek times.
Here is some of the evidence.
First they have Damien pissed off - National Dialup Tender - 2 year wait before some will get shit Internet
Three Broadband is awful - there is 377 pages of proof on boards.ie
Broadband slow on O2, there’s a number of threads here on O2’s own support site, it could be something to do with the fact that they are selling cheap broadband to students, meaning too many people trying to get on the O2 network bringing the whole thing to a halt.
Until they sort things out get DSL (if you can), and only expect basic webpages and basic e-mail with mobile broadband.

Less Networking More Loving

Got seven minutes to spare? An interesting little video, sees Stewart Kershaw bring his ‘on the go’ social networking device (aka his phone) to a standstill by not using his Blackberry for a week, I wonder how many people, there’s one high profile Irish Blogger ’star’ I can think of, could do without social networking/phone for a week? Myself included there!
Ooooopss…Here is a link to the video, I can’t seem to post it here.

The Wife is Cheating?
I really need some advice on what could be one of the most dramatic decisions I’ve ever made in my life. I suspect that my wife has been cheating on me for some time now…
So far it’s the usual warning flags… the caller hangs up if I answer the phone when it rings.
My woman has been “going out with the girls” much more lately but when I ask their names she just says, “Some friends from work you don’t know yet.”
I stay up late to look for the taxi bringing her home, but she always walks down the drive as if she has gotten out of the car round the corner, since I can hear a car somewhere. I really think she’s isn’t arriving by taxi…
Once I picked up her cell phone to see what time it was and she went crazy and told me that I should never touch her phone again and got all defensive about “why was I checking up on her?”
You can see I’m nervous to bring up the subject with my wife because I think deep down I’m not sure I want to admit truth, but last night she went out again and I decided to get to the bottom of things.
I decided to hide out near the bushes in the front yard so I could get a good view of the whole street when she came home. It was at that moment, sitting in the bushes with my wireless laptop, that I decided my PC is too damn slow and needs an update.
So should I finally start using Windows Vista or do you think I should keep using XP?
Ok, so I saw someone on the net had reposted this old email joke, and I had to post it

Luas is now a light rail advert
Did anyone see the Luas redline in Dublin - it is now literally a light rail advert - currently featuring a vodafone ad- looks awful to see an advert zipping around our city - or am I moaning again for no reason?
Anyone got a picture?

The 9/11 Faker - On Channel 4 tonight:
